Reasearch

I've been trying out a lot of the stuff we talked about in class about the "AND", "OR", and "NOT". So I tried it out on Google. I thought I'd experiment to just see what sort of results I would get. I typed in "cancer treatment -money" to see if I could get information about just cancer treatments NOT including the financial information. I want the financial information too but I would like to receive them from sites that ONLY talk about treatments OR sites that ONLY talk about financial costs of cancer. I think I might get higher quality sites this way instead of sites that just contain a lot of information. Interestingly, the search took me straight to the national cancer institute. After examining the site, the national cancer institute does not have a lot of information on the financial cost, but instead on the treatment itself. This way of searched seemed to be very productive for me. I think it will be a sensible way to get good information not lots of information. I'm after quality, not quantity.

Class Exercise 1

Topic Area: The process of treating cancer.

Why would certain cancer treatments be harder to get than others?

  1. How can hospitals help patients get new treatments?
  2. How does the cost of creating these treatment relate to the development of them?
In-Class Exercise III

1. I used Google search engine and typed in the key words "cancer treatment options" and received several good websites.
2. Now that I know where the information is, I feel much more comfortable with my topic choice.
3. I think for general information that I need, Google is the best way to go.

Information needed

In order to research this topic, information will need to be found and documented. Several key pieces of information will be vital to the reasearch of this topic. Information on the types of treatment options for cancer will need to be found. Facts will need to be determined about the nature of each option. The cost of each treatment option will also need to be discovered. Data will need to be discovered about new and innovative treatment options that are being offered. An investigation will also need to be done on the research being formed about these new treatments. All information should be documented in the correct way.

What are the costs and benefits of treatment options for Cancer?

The beginning of the twenty-first century has ushered in new treatments options for cancer. In the past, treatment options for cancer were limited. New and advanced treatments have developed in the last few years. However, with new treatments come new costs. Can the newly developed treatment options be affordable to everyone? How costly were the old treatment methods? What are some of the complications of the new and old methods?
From new FDA approved drugs to entirely original procedures, huge strides are being made in the fight against cancer. Treatments include, but are not limited to: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, individual cancer drugs, and bisphosphonates. The options for cancer treatment are growing; and with the help of support groups, the costs are decreasing.
